I used to have Buff Orpingtons and they continued through the winter, they do slow down, however. If you really want eggs all winter you need to artificially light them. I've done this by getting a fluorescent light and putting it on a timer. They need 15 hours of daylight to remain productive. Do this soon though because as the days get shorter it will be difficult to get them up to 15 hours without putting them into molt. It must be done gradually, 5-10 minutes additional light per day to get them to 15 hours.
Buffs will go broody too if you get them.
